With the exception of comfortable clothes that do not restrict movement and are adapted to weather conditions, the most important sporting item for a runner is footwear. The main thing to keep in mind is that there is a type of footwear for every sport. Since there are countless models of slippers specially created for running, the ideal footwear must meet the following criteria:
• They are padded and have a sole made of shock-absorbing material to reduce the impact on the foot
• The back of the slipper is suitable for the heel and provides stability to prevent sprains
• The material allows sufficient ventilation of the foot
• One centimeter of free space remains between the thumb and the tip of the slipper
• Provides enough space to move your fingertips a little
Try the new shoes at the end of the day, because then your feet are a little bigger than in the morning. If possible, test the slippers on several surfaces (carpet, tiles) to make sure they are comfortable.
Injuries caused by running
Most commonly, running-related injuries occur in the first months of starting the sport, during the recovery period after an injury, or during periods of increased effort or distance. The incriminating causes are technical errors - lack of heating, sudden increase in intensity, sustained running up the hill. Lack of sufficient rest and inadequate footwear are also causes of injuries. In addition, people who have difficulty finding a suitable pair of running shoes may have an anatomical abnormality in the foot. This also increases the chance of injury and it is necessary to purchase a pair of orthopedic shoes with a protective design.
The most common injuries are those of the knee - tendinitis, injury to the cruciate ligaments, ankle - sprain or dislocation and leg - tibial periostitis. Warming up before training, wearing the right equipment, as well as running on smooth and relatively soft terrain can prevent these accidents. Of the injuries that develop over time, stress fractures are the most feared for athletes who train frequently. To avoid them, stop playing sports when you notice unexplained pain or trauma, even if it is apparently minor.
